Morgan’s Self Care Practices

I have been into self care for awhile now. I know that it is sometimes shamed upon, nonetheless I believe self care is crucial for all of us. I like to say we have to take time for ourselves in order to show up as our best selves. I know for me that’s the case. You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to others. Here are the many practices that I incorporate into my daily life as well as the practices I would like to start doing more often. This post goes along with routines which you can expect later after Christmas, but lets begin with me listing my best self care practices.

Reading

Reading is a lot more benificial than you might think. Helps us with our grammar skills, we may learn new things, and in addition it is very soothing. A wonderful way to rest!

Journaling

Sometimes you just need to get things out of your head. If you are feeling a certain way, have thoughts you need to organize, something that you need to go on a tangent about. That’s another thing, if i need to vent about something it is best to do it on a piece of paper. Walk away and forget.

Listening to Podcasts

I listen to podcasts the most when I’m getting dressed or just doing something by myself around the house. I used to listen to podcasts a lot in the car, but I seem to get bored. So it is better while being productive. The time seems to go by faster. If there is something you don’t want to do I suggest having some kind of benefit incorporated like listening to a podcast.

Dancing to Music

Whenever you feel yourself getting into a bad mood put on some of your favorite tunes and dance.

Cleaning

There are no words to describe how I feel after I clean or in other words straighten up. It is the first thing I do before I do anything. Goes along with setting the mood. If you’re planning to stay home play some kind of background music, light a candle, and open up the blinds.

Stretching

I would like to start doing more yoga and stretching. I first will of course need to learn how to do the actual thing. My back hurts often especially as I am writing this. I have tried to stretch, but have never been a good stretcher. So I definitly do need more practice.

Meditation

My grandfather first introduced this to me then it started getting popular. I used to use the calm app but now I just use nature sounds which seems to work just the same. You sit strait with your feet on the floor just focusing on the breathe breathing in and out.

Affirmation

I try to read the affirmations I have wrote for myself in my planner every single morning. A great start to the day with putting positive thoughts as well as reminding yourself how good you are as well as just life in general is. Set good intones remind yourself who you are and what you are striving for.

Drinking water

This is not something I have to force myself to do. I only drink water unless I’m going to a coffee shop or something of that sort. Which I go to maybe two times a week. I am a big fan of using a hydroflask. There is a reason why the glass is so popular. If I feel up my 32 oz two times a day that is the perfect amount.

Devotional

Beginning your morning checking in with God is so good for your soul. I have been doing this although since I was just confirmed into the church I am wanting to try a new way. Will have a post all about what I do later on because I am still working with this.

Walking or Going Outside

When your feeling stressed or find yourself feeling crazy just take a walk or go outside and play with your dogs.

Hot shower

When you are feeling gross and just want to feel refreshed, taking a hot shower does a big big  difference.

Watching Funny Videos

If you haven’t laughed all day this is wonderful thing to do. If you need a little light in your day pull out your phone and go on Facebook or Tik Tok. That’s where I normally find the funny videos.

Quick nap

Feeling tired? All it takes is a quick power nap and you feel brand new.

A few more words. Don’t feel like you have to wake up early early to start your day off on the right foot. Believe me I have learned sleep is far more important. Which ever  time works best for you do that. I don’t want you to be too strict with yourself like I have been. Here in just the past week I have started to sleep in and it has been amazing. I would wake up at 5:20 and leave at 7:30. So I think I might be scheduling my routine a little differently when I come back to school.
